Installing SQL Clustering on Windows Server 2003

Part 3: Step-By-Step instructions on installing SQL 2005 in a Clustered Environment

  1. Once you have selected all of the target components and entered all the appropriate security information, the installation program will prompt you to verify your selected options. To begin the installation/upgrade, click on the "Install" button to begin.
When you are finished click on the [Next] button to continue
  2. The set-up program will now configure the set-up files, migrate the changes to the bootstrap files, and congfigure the components.
  3. As the installation/upgrade proceeds, the set-up program will display a progress screen that show what products and components are being installed and that status of each item, for each node. In a clustered environment, you can use the dropdown to select the node you wish to see the progress for. When the setup has finished, you can browse through the list of items and components to check for any errors.
When you are finished click on the [Next] button to continue
  4. If all went well, you will now be presented with the Setup Summary screen. From here you can review the logs for any errors.
When you are finished click on the [Finish] button to continue
  5. While it is not required, it is good practice shutdown/restart the node you installed on.
Then, log in to the alternate node and shutdown/restart it also.
This will allow you to verify that failover works properly.
  6. Once you are satisfied that the installation is stable, you will need to Install Workstation Tools on the remaining nodes.
